| Quinteto Real |
The Quinteto Real was formed in 1960 with the simple aim of making instrumental tangos designed for listening rather than dancing with space to display the virtuoso playing of its members:
This is one of the strongest small groups ever to play tango music. Salgán, Francini and Laurenz had all led tango orchestras in their own right and are synonymous with their instruments.
Francini and Laurenz are now no longer with us and the project continues as the Nuevo Quinteto Real, but this is the original incarnation of the group and, for me, the best.

A new generation of tangueros now have the chance to hear this amazing group. The playing is fresh, spontaneous and exciting, inventive, and witty, with delightful interplay between the soloists. Francini's romantic violin playing in particular is a joy. Congratulations to Sony for releasing this material.
