Tango Holiday in the Ardèche 15th - 21st July 2012

How to get there

Nonières is in the Ardèche in the South of France. If you are flying, we strongly recommend that you hire a car at Lyon Airport. Inform us of your plans, and we may be able to put you in touch with others with a view to sharing a hire car.

Flying

Fly to Lyon from Gatwick or Stansted with easyJet; or with KLM from Amsterdam.

Car hire

These are agencies for the car hire companies - it's cheaper to use them than to go direct. When comparing prices, make sure that you add any optional CDW.

By train

The nearest major town is Valence, south of Lyon. It has a TGV station 10km outside town, from whence a shuttle bus takes you to Valence SNCF station in the town centre.

The TGV starts in Brussels and passes through Lyon Airport 30 minutes before Valence SNCF. In July and August there is one direct train each day from Amsterdam. Check the Dutch railways for timetable information. Book well in advance on Dutch railways e-commerce site, HiSpeed. Tickets go on sale 6 months ahead, i.e. in January.

The buses

From Valence station you can take a bus to Le Cheylard (12) or Vernoux-en-Vivarais (6), from where we will pick you up. Le Cheylard is closest but there are very few buses, and none at all on Sundays. The bus to Le Cheylard is run by Les Cars De L'Eyrieux (note that the local word for bus is car).

Bus times

Driving directions

From Lyon, take the E15 (A7) motorway, taking exit 13 Tain L'Hermitage / Tournon. Alternatively, take the D86 on the other side of the river - a very relaxing drive on Sundays.

Follow the directions to Tournon and then Lamastre (30 km). After 10 km you will pass the small hamlet of Les Nonières. At the church turn left and immediately right on the D241 toward St. Julien Labrousse. After 2 km you see a huge white cross, on the roadside on the right; by the side of this is the road to Les Costes. This is a single track road, and not included in Sat-nav mappings. The GPS coordinates of the junction are: N 44.91949º E 4.48295º.

If you want a local road map, get Michelin Local Map 331, which covers both the Ardèche and Haute-Loire, from Stanfords or Amazon
